Global Illicit Trade Index 2025 Launched in Islamabad

Islamabad, May 01, 2025:

The PRIME Institute, in collaboration with the Transnational Alliance to Combat Illicit Trade (TRACIT), launched the Global Illicit Trade Index 2025 and Combating Illicit Trade in Pakistan: A Structural and Policy Analysis at the Marriott Hotel’s Ambassador Hall.

The event, attended by government, business, and civil society leaders, underscored Pakistan’s resolve to tackle illicit trade.

Chief Guest Rana Ihsaan Afzal Khan, Coordinator to the Prime Minister, Ministry of Commerce, delivered closing remarks, highlighting transformative Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) initiatives. He emphasized the Faceless Customs Assessment System, Track and Trace expansion to pharmaceuticals and petroleum, border customs enhancements, and Afghan Transit Trade reforms, including bank guarantees and scanning protocols, to curb smuggling and boost transparency.

Mr. Jeffrey P. Hardy, TRACIT’s Director General, delivered a compelling keynote, outlining global strategies to combat illicit trade and praising Pakistan’s proactive measures. The reports provide a roadmap for policy action, fostering a whole-of-society approach. The event sparked robust dialogue, reinforcing Pakistan’s commitment to trade integrity.
