Virtual International Trade Forum by RCCI on 22nd July 2020

Ministry of Commerce & Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce & Industry organized the first chapter of Virtual International Trade Forum on 22nd July 2020.  Advisor to P.M on Commerce, Textile & Investment Mr. Abdul Razaq Dawood was the Chief Guest of the event. The event offered first-hand insights from Trade and Investment Officers from the African region, officials from Trade Development Authority and Ministry of Commerce and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.  Mr. Saboor Malik, President RCCI and senior members of the business community also participated. Virtual Trade Forum was remotely attended by more than 200 people online from various sectors including representatives from Reap, exporters of Agriculture farming implements, Gems & Jewellery, Poultry & arts and handicrafts.

Speaking on the occasion, Advisor to P.M on Commerce, Textile & Investment said that Government of Pakistan is emphasizing to enhance product and geographical diversification He apprised the participants that exports of diversified industrial and Services sector are on the rise. He reiterated Government’s commitment for stronger trade and economic partnership with African countries.

He further informed the audience that in order to make Pakistani products more competitive, duties on raw materials are being eliminated to zero. In order to facilitate the exporters, the government of Pakistan has released tax refunds of around Rs. 50 billion. Advisor to P.M on Commerce, Textile & Investment also congratulated and appreciated this innovative step taken by Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce & Industry.

Pakistan’s Trade and Investment officers from Trade & Investment Officers posted in Algeria, Egypt, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal & South Africa shared the current status  and existing opportunities in their respective host countries with the participants, discussion was followed by Q&A session. Acting Secretary Trade Development Authority of Pakistan, being the National TPO shared his views analyzed the challenges posed by Covid-19 and way forward.

This innovative initiative of organizing a Virtual Trade Forum was appreciated by the participants. Ministry of Commerce and RCCI endeavors to organize similar forums with other regions.
