PAKISTAN-AFRICA TRADE DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE, 30-31 JANUARY 2020, KENYATTA INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION CENTRE, NAIROBI, KENYA

Mr. Abdul Razak Dawood, Advisor to Prime Minister on Commerce, Industries and Production and Investment, concluded the two day Pakistan Africa Trade Development Conference  at Nairobi Kenya on 31st January 2020.  He stated “ We saw, we understand and we have fallen in love with Africa” of Ministry of Commerce. He elaborated that this conference is the first step to enhance engagement under ‘ Look Africa Policy Initiative “ He thanked over three hundred African delegates from twenty countries for coming from East, West, South and North of  Africa to attend the conference. He thanked Pakistani companies for overwhelming response to the conference and expressed the resolve to double the trade with Africa in next five years. The B2B meetings has generated business for rice, fruits and vegetables, processed food, bakery products and confectionery, pharmaceuticals, sports goods, tractors, cement and light engineering sector companies.

The second day started with remarks by Mr. Ahmed Anter, First Undersecretary for Commerce and Industry of Egypt. He appreciated the efforts of Pakistan to build partnership with Egypt and other African countries. Dr.Alaa Ezz, Secretary General of Union of African Chambers of Commerce and Industry gave a presentation on trade potential of Pakistan with Africa, explaining  how Pakistani companies could partner with African companies.

Senior Officials from Tunisia, Sudan, South Africa, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Mauritius, Senegal and Nigeria presented business opportunities in their countries and the potential of trade and economic partnership with Pakistan. On the sidelines of the Conference, the Advisor had detailed bilateral meeting  with Kenyan Trade Minister. It was decided to hold long delayed Joint Ministerial Commission meeting and also Joint Trade Committee meeting soon.

Speakers from leading Pakistani companies described strengths of Pakistani pharmaceuticals, surgical instruments, textile, sports goods, IT Services, rice in their presentations. In the end, the representative of the Government of Kenya thanked government of Pakistan for choosing Kenya to host first Pakistan Africa Trade Development Conference,
